I tuned into the Democratic National Convention last night. Here were my top 5 favorite moments from day one.
#5 Cory Booker's Speech
He spoke so well. After a while, I felt like I was in church. It was a really good lead up to the speakers that followed. Well done Mr. Booker
"Being asked to pay your fair share isn't class warfare, it's patriotism"
"It is our fundamental national aspiration that no matter how you choose to pray or whom you choose to love...that if you are a citizen of the United States of America...that you should be able to find a job that pays the bills."
"This November with the reelection of President Barack Obama, this generation of Americans will expand beyond the hope, the dream, the promise of America."
#4 Donna Christensen
I saw my congresswoman and close family friend, Rep. Donna Christensen (D-VI) on C-Span :-)
#3 Amber Riley
Amber Riley sang the National Anthem at the opening of the convention. She sang beautifully. She made it her own without doing too much.
#2 Julian Castro's speech
He is the first Latino to deliver the keynote address at the DNC. It was so special to see his mom, wife, and adorable daughter watching his speech. :-)
"You can't be pro-business, unless you're pro-education"
"My mother fought heard for civil rights so that instead of a mop, I could hold this microphone."
"With the opportunity we build today, for a shared prosperity tomorrow. America will prevail. It begins with re-electing Barack Obama."
#1 Michelle Obama's Speech
The first lady looked AMAZING last night! She rocked a custom Tracy Reese dress with pink suede J. Crew pumps. Her hair and make-up was flawless and her eye lashes were on point!
"If you work hard, you should be able to build a decent life for yourself & an even better life for your kids & grand-kids."
"I have seen first hand that being president doesn't change who you are--it reveals who you are."
"He believes that women are more than capable of making our own choices about our bodies and our health care."
"When we married, our combined monthly student loan bill was higher than our mortgage. We were so young, so in love, and so in debt."
"He believes that when you've worked hard, done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you"
"For Barack, it's not how much money you make. It's the difference you make in people's lives"
